Trickcyclists.co.uk: Start here for the MRCPsych Exam

Trickcyclists.co.uk is a free resource for psychiatry trainees who are studying for their membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. The site offers notes for the exams, advice on the Clinical Assessment of Skills and Competencies (CASC) Exam, more OSCEs than any other web resource, MCQs, PMPs, and the most complete listing of MRCPsych courses on the web.

Site updates:

11/3/09: CASC Toolkit - analyse feedback forms for November 2008 CASC.

19/2/09: New book for the Paper 1 - "Best of Five MCQs for MCRPsych Paper 1".

11/2/09: Important information on how the CASC is scored has been added.

Updated OSCEs:

It is hoped that linked stations will be added in the same format as the older OSCEs. However, this is a time-consuming process and it may be some time before linked stations amass in number.

Course updates:

26/5/09: Oxford Course now offering one-day CASC skills course.

18/5/09: New Course added: CASC Exam Practice

Events:

2-5 June 2009 : RCPsych Annual Meeting. BT Convention Centre, Liverpool.

15-16 October 2009 : Faculty of General & Community Psychiatry. Cardiff.

MRCPsych Examinations:

The College has changed the format of postgraduate exams. You can read details of the new exams here.

UPDATE: The College have published an updated candidate guide to the CASC. Within it, they have stated that all stations carry equal weight. Therefore, you cannot fail the CASC because you fail one single station.

Some details of the June 2008 CASC were released by the College. Essentially, the exam will consist of 12 x 10 minute stations, all of them linked (i.e. 6 x paired stations). The first station will be a "clinical task" whilst the second will be a related task. Each station will have 2 minutes of preparation time and there will be a 1-minute warning.

For details on how to apply for the exam, see the Royal College of Psychiatrists Examinations webpages. The examinations calendar is now provided by the College as a PDF document.
